Sustainability

Retail Council of Canada is serious about environmental sustainability! Our ultimate goal is to ensure that all of our events are zero-waste.

Here are some things we did at STORE to help us reach this objective:

Speaker Sessions & Delegate Materials

To cut down on paper, rather than providing handouts and/or materials during presentations, copies were made available online for all delegates in electronic version after the event.

In addition, this year we offered an online “Eco-bag,” in place of the traditional delegate bag that we have given away in previous years.

Finally, all badge inserts and badge holders provided to each delegate at the conference are reusable and made of 100% recyclable paper.

Refreshments

In an effort to minimize waste, water was served in jugs with glasses, while cream and milk were served in pitchers. Silver spoons for stirring tea and coffee were provided to replace regular stir sticks.

Venue

When working with venues, we look for those who are environmentally conscious and employ sustainable guidelines in their provision of products and services.

Since its expansion in January 2008, the Toronto Congress Centre (TCC) has become a leader in green trade show facilities. Sustainable features of this venue include energy efficient lighting, improved air quality, on-site recycling, and much more. The Congress Centre also partners with Turtle Island Recycling to sort and recycle all leftover materials on a regular basis including on-site recycling at STORE.
